Things to Do in Greenport, NY
A local's guide to Greenport on the North Fork: the carousel, the waterfront, where to eat and drink, and how to make a day of it.

Why go
Greenport is the North Fork village you can do completely on foot. Park once (or take the LIRR to the end of the line) and you have the waterfront, Mitchell Park and its carousel, Front and Main Street shops, and some of the best seafood on the East End all within a few blocks.
It is a working harbor town first, so it feels lived in, not staged. Go for a lazy Saturday, stay for sunset on the water, and hop the ferry to Shelter Island if you have the time.
Local tips
Summer weekends get busy. Get there before 11am and parking is easy.
The Mitchell Park carousel is a few bucks a ride and the kids will want more than one.
The North Ferry to Shelter Island leaves right from the village.
Make a day of it with a winery or farm stand stop on Route 25 on the way in.
Fall and early December are underrated. Fewer crowds and the village looks great.
